Call of Duty hit its peak?

Could Activision’s Call of Duty franchise really be in decline? According to new figures released today, it could be so.

Life-to-date sales of last year’s award winning Modern Warfare 3 are said to be lagging behind those created by Black Ops by up to 4.2 %. Shocking isn’t it?

In March this year, sales were quoted as being half the amount of that of Black Ops in the same month in 2011.

Analyst PiperJaffray has speculated that the ‘fall is mainly attributable to the rise in other sectors such as smartphone and casual gaming, which is claiming an increasingly large proportion of gamer’s monthly spend.’

When Modern Warfare was released last November to high acclaim, it still maintained the tradition of beating sales records on release. Though it has been noted that they were less than Black Ops, as expected.
