Rockstar games have released a development diary into the techniques used to create the action sequences for the next instalment of the Max Payne series. Max Payne 3 will show the return of the ex-cop who is sturggling to come to terms with coming off the force and losing his family. Taking a job he really shouldn’t Max sees himself thrown back into the world he is desperately trying to avoid.

Listening to the video and being reminded of the voice of the tour guide in Jurassic Park, Rockstar reel off the facts of creating this latest masterpiece. We know bullets have been individually studied and animations have been created for just about every angle of impact, which is all good but if you study the video itself, you begin to get a feel for the game.

From the way things are shaping up Max Payne 3 has two plot points, with hair and without. The Max with hair is who we start off with, and who takes the job that pits himself against US SAS members. He then leaves to San Paulo to try and start again as things didn’t go so well. So to begin a new life he takes a razor to his head an looks remarkably like Alan from the Hangover 2.

Things still end up going wrong for Alan… I mean Max and it is up to him to blow open a crime ring and save – an as yet – unannounced female character. Fans can rejoice as all the ingredients are here: Bullet time, moody narratives, end of battle kill sequences and never catching a break.

Max Payne is shaping up to be a great entry from the series with overhauls in the AI, graphics and even the story. Max Payne 3 will launch on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in March.
