Further to our news post last week regarding the existence of a 3DS Epic Mickey Game, Disney have released the first full details of the game’s story and the first set of images.

Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion – to give the game it’s full title – is in fact a follow on from the awesome Castle of Illusion. While not directly a sequel to the Mega Drive game, it does draw on elements from both the old title and the new Epic Mickey series. The Castle of Illusion has fallen into Wasteland, an alternate world filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters, theme park attractions and video games. The evil witch Mizrabel, villainess from the classic Castle of Illusion finds herself an unwilling inhabitant of Wasteland. She forms a plot to escape using the Castle of Illusion to imprison and drain the cartoon essence from currently famous Toons. Mickey will be at the control of the player and utilises his magical brush to wield paint and thinner to confront Mizrabel and save the Toons.

The game is being developed in a collaboration between Disney Interactive’s Junction Point and Dreamrift, and offers a special drawing and painting functions that allows players to create rough versions of objects that magically transform into classic Disney-style 2D illustrations. The game’s dual screen set up provides the ability for players to move their creations to the top screen where they are further transformed into full-color, fully-rendered 3D visuals.

Disney Epick Mickey: Power of Illusion is scheduled for a 2012 release on Nintendo 3DS.
