Our spikey blue friend is due to make another comeback this year. From the joys that was Sonic Generations, to what many cite as a disappointment from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Sonic 4 Episode II’s official release date has been leaked.

Whilst, we at VGN may disagree that the first episode was disappointing, the second episode so far is being heralded as great by Twitter in general. SEGA are currently displaying the game as a gaming convention in the US.

The date comes from what looks like an official trailer from Japan and is being slated as the 16 May 2012. The release date also rings true for the States, with GameSpot announcing it on their flagship show.

As today is a public holiday, the kindly SEGA PR team are off, probably avoiding the rain like most of us. So we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to hear from them regarding the UK release. But it’s very likely to be 16 May 2012.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II is available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and eventually various mobile devices. Remember, it’s not out on the Wii, due to filesize restrictions on the platform.
