Sony has acquired Gaikai – a cloud gaming service in an attempt to revolutionize the gaming market. For $380 million, Sony will aim to use the service in the up and coming PlayStation 4 console to provide games that can be streamed and saved up in the virtual clouds thus eliminating the need for physical copies of games to be sold.

More likely is that they will be able to offer the 1000s of titles from the PlayStation1, 2 and even the PS3 to be instantly streamed much like movies on demand but with the option of picking up where you left off. The only real answer will come from Sony and Gaikai on how the acquisition will plan out in the future and how Sony will use cloud in its gaming service.
