News has come through to us today that the GAME group has been purchased by investment company OpCapita in a deal that saves just over 3,200 jobs and the 333 remaining GAME/Gamestation stores in the UK ending the 6 days the company has spent in administration.

As part of the deal, the new owners who also recently purchased the struggling Comet group, pledges to keep all the current stores open for business and may even re-employ some of the head office team that was laid off last week. The deal came last minute on Sunday as RBS and the group of banks were preparing to take the group over and start winding the company down.

“We strongly believe there is a place on the high street for a video gaming specialist and Game is the leading brand in a £2.8bn market in the UK,” said Henry Jackson, managing partner at OpCapita. He continued, “We have assembled a strong team of experienced industry operators to implement the programme of operational change that is needed.”

The next stage will be to reshuffle the business and start getting back the suppliers the previous management team let go.
