Nintendo have today announced that in the first 6 months of this year they have made a loss of a staggering 70.2 Billion Yen. This translates into around £578 million. This is down to slow Nintendo DS & 3DS sales, and concentration being focused on the WiiU rather than the Wii.

In light of these figures, Nintendo have said that full year sales forecast was cut from 900 billion yen (£7.4 billion) to 790 billion yen (£6.5 billion), while operating profit may be 1 billion yen (£8.2 million), versus 35 billion yen (£288 million) predicted earlier.

They are hoping that they can reduce some of this loss with up and coming titles such as The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land and Kid Icurus Uprising. They expect a full year loss of 20 billion yen – around £165 million.

This could well be the first year since 1981 that Nintendo have made a loss in a financial year.
