Nintendo has released the first paid downloadable content for 3DS in Japan. Content for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has been previously announced as the earliest DLC for the system, but Japanese photo app Tobidasu Print Club Kiradeco Revolution has now become the first to offer paid downloads on the eShop.

Players will be able to purchase Mario themes for their photos, including a basic Mario pack and a Mario Kart 7 set. The packs will be available for 100 yen each, roughly equivalent to a little over a dollar.

Paid DLC – and Tobidasu Print Club Kiradeco Revolution specifically – has yet to be confirmed for the U.S. or Europe, but the content marks a huge milestone for Nintendo, who previously hasn’t offered paid add-ons.

The DLC went on sale in Japan yesterday, following Tobidasu Print Club Kiradeco Revolution’s initial release back in December. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is set to hit stores in Japan on February 16th.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled for a European release!
