Sony and Microsoft have unveiled the ‘free’ games you can be playing in April as part of their PlayStation Plus and Games With Gold subscriptions. This month includes Oddworld, Vikings, and Zombies. Lots and lots of Zombies. Let’s have a look at the games we’ll be playing.

You can jump to the platform of choice by clicking the relevant company:

PlayStation Plus from 6th April

  • Oddworld: Soulstorm (PS5)
  • Days Gone (PS4)
  • Zombie Army 4: Dead War (PS4)

Following Final Fantasy VII Remake was always going to be a tough ask. It’s fair to say that having the brand new Oddworld game headlining the PlayStation Plus selection is a good decision. While the game will also be available on the PS4, only the PS5 version is included. It’s great to see Sony’s bringing another brand new PS5 game to the masses with PS Plus. Soulstorm is getting some of the staff at VGamingNews very excited and we can’t wait to get our hands on the game.

Elsewhere, we have the hugely talked about third-person open world survival horror, Days Gone and Zombie shooter Zombie Army 4: Dead War. The two games both offering different takes on the Zombie genre. Both games have received average reviews but from our experience still have some good fun to offer players.

As usual, all games are playable on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility and if you’ve not managed to pick up a new machine, so long as you add the games to your library via the website or mobile app, they’ll be waiting for you.

Microsoft’s Games With Gold

  • Vikings: Wolves of Midgard (1st – 30th April)
  • Truck Racing Championship (16th April – 15th May)
  • Dark Void (1st -15th April)
  • Hard Corps: Uprising (16th – 30th April)

First up we have Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, a tactical RPG where you have to defend the world from the impending beasts of Ragnarok. The screens will be full of the blood of your victims as you attempt to stay out of Valhalla until your quest is complete.

Next we have 2019’s Truck Racing Championship. There’s not much to say except you select one of those big-rig semis and race them. It’s a lot of fun and worth checking out in the second half of April, especially since it’s included in your subscription.

The two retro games this month come from the 360 era. Alien shooter, Dark Void & run and gun arcade experience Hard Corps: Uprising. Both games will serve you well if you’re looking for an action-packed story where a lot of things go boom.

As with all Xbox titles, remember to add them to your library during the specific dates to claim them for free. Game Pass Ultimate players can also make use of Games With Gold.

Those are the two line ups from Sony & Microsoft. We feel that with Sony having the brand new Oddworld game in their line-up they slightly edge any competitions. However, we’re just happy there are benefits to both subscription services. Are there any that catch your eyes? Is it a bust month for you? Do you even play the ‘freebies’?
