Get Up To Date With Bloober Team’s Latest Horror Title – The Medium

Family friendly are two words you wouldn’t use to describe the games Bloober Team create. In the last few years they’ve produced; The Observer, Blair Witch and Layers of Fear. Shockingly, their next project continues to explore the horror with, The Medium, coming out on Xbox Series X|S and PC on 28th January.

The Medium gives you control over Maryanne, a medium who has a particular set of skills and chooses to explore haunted hotels. Her abilities means that she can explore the spirit world in order to investigate mysteries only a medium can solve.

Much of the game takes a split screen approach where Maryanne explores both environments simultaneously. For the player this means the screen is split in two and the action unfolds in real time. This might seem like a confusing mechanic, but from the video below, it looks rather well executed.

There are moments when solving a puzzle requires an “Out of body experience” and Maryanne can focus solely on solving a puzzle in the spirit world so she can progress in the real world. While in the spirit world, she can harness energies to help defeat enemies and solve puzzles.

We quickly find out Maryanne isn’t the only one with the power to move between the two worlds. Becoming hunted by a creature known as “The Maw” adds an element of urgency and stealth to the game, because exploring a haunted hotel isn’t scary enough.

Heavily inspired by Silent Hill (in fact some of the staff have helped out with the game), The Medium is Bloober Team’s biggest and most ambitious project to date.

The Medium is sure to creep out even the most seasoned horror gamer when it launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC on 28th January.
