Celebrate Gal*Gun’s 10th Anniversary With Gal*Gun Returns Shoots Onto Steam & Switch In February

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of anime-waifu shooter series Gal*Gun. What better way to mark the series’ longevity with a remaster of the first game that never came to the West? Well, as if luck would have it, Gal*Gun Returns heads to Nintendo Switch & Steam on 12th February.

Gal*Gun Returns is an on-rails shooter where you play as Tenzou Motesugi, a high school student who has somehow become the object of affection with any female that catches his eye. Imbued with the power of “Pheromone Shot” which he uses to subdue the hoards of women so he can progress through the level. Critical hits are know as “Ecstasy Shots” and will instantly stop the girls approaching.

During the levels if you make enough progress, you’ll activate “Doki Doki” mode. This is where you focus on a particular girl and try to hit certain areas.

Gal*Gun has understandably drawn criticism for riding a fine line between lewd and obscene. The fact the game features anime girls in high school with short skirts and have targeted “Ecstasy Zones”. We know that Gal*Gun won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and the game is never presented as anything but light-hearted fan service.

Originally released on the Xbox 360, PS3 & PC back in 2011 as Gal*Gun, the game fared well but didn’t make it out of Japan. As the series became more popular, and through the sheer dedication from publishers PQube, we did see subsequent releases of the sequel for the PS4 & Vita, as well as a VR title on PC. The fourth entry in the series, confusingly called Gal*Gun 2, was released in 2018 on both the PS4 and Switch (later, Steam).

Gal*Gun Returns will feature all previous DLC and voice acting for over 70 different characters. It releases on Nintendo Switch & PC on 12th February.
