CD Projekt Red have announced and released the latest 1.5 patch for Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s available across PS4, Xbox One, PC as well as the next-gen consoles right now! A free trail is also available which gives players 5 hours of unlimited access to Night City.

The RPG has seen a troubled couple of years, the initial release for the PS4/Xbox One versions were almost unplayable leading to a public apology from the CD Projekt leadership team, various patches were developed but this lead to the delay of the planned story DLC and next gen patches. But today at least one of those things has changed!

The next gen update to Cyberpunk 2077 is free for all players who own PS4 & Xbox One versions, so long as you stay within the same console family and of course, disc versions of the game need a console with a disc drive to download the next gen version. Saves will transfer over for both versions and Xbox players also get a new set of achievements. PS4-PS5 players unfortunately will have to earn the trophies all over again as they don’t transfer over.

For new players, there’s a 5 hour free trail available where you can play as much of the story as possible. This will only be available until March so get going if you want a taste of Night City.

The next gen enhancements include a 4K upscaled resolution, improved HDR and either a 60FPS performance mode or a 30FPS Ray Trace mode. These only apply to Xbox Series X and PS5 versions. Series S has a max resolution of 1440p and PC players can unlock the framerate completely.

It’s not just a next gen upgrade as patch 1.5 has a whole host of bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Improvements to the UI, map and phone system have been implemented, along with a rebalanced skill tree. After downloading the update, your save file will have your perks reset so make sure you go in an reset them otherwise you’re going to be mince meat very quickly! Combat and driving feels weighty now and if you’re playing on a PS5, weapons have a heft when pulling the triggers thanks to those adaptive triggers on the DualSense.

In game, the ability to rent apartments all over Night City has been added along with redesigning your own apartment. If you look in any mirror, you’re finally able to change V’s appearance. Extra DLC involving finding weapons at 2nd Amendment have been slotted in as well as some additional Fixer rewards. Your romance options have been improved too but CD Projekt were coy on the details so we’ll have to play through again to find out what these are but we know you’ll be able to message them more and they’ll occasionally show up in your bed under certain circumstances.

We’ve been replaying the game before posting this piece and I can confirm that I’ve suffered far fewer bugs and the load times are vastly improved. After downloading the eye watering 60GB update, the PS4 version also magically shrank from 107GB on my PS5 to 58GB, meaning not only do players have a more stable experience, the compression used also freed up just under 50% of the game’s initial install. As an FYI, the next gen version is around the same size. With the additional NPCs populating Night City and tweaks to the overall AI, Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely in good shape.
