Disgaea Creator Sohei Niikawa has announced his latest project, Etrange Overlord, will be coming to PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch in 2026. Since leaving Nippon Ichi Software in 2022, Niikawa has branched off on his own, creating SuperNiche, and the musical RPG will be the first game released under the new moniker.
Predominantly a single-player adventure that can expand into a multiplayer mode of up to 4 people, players take on the role of Étrange von Rosenburg, a daughter of a duke thats been falsely accused of assassinating the king. Von Rosenburg is swiftly executed and finds herself in hell. Instead of looking for a way out, she decides to make the most of it and take over the place in a humorous fashion.
Etrange Overlord is described as a fast-paced action RPG gameplay, featuring a unique lane mechanic that sends items, power-ups, and even your characters revolving around the stage. Gamers have to recruit demons from all corners of hell and put them to work as their subordinates.
From the looks of the trailer, it does seem that the humour that made the Disgaea series has carried over into the new project from Niikawa and it’s certainly one we’ll be keeping an eye on.
Etrange Overlord is coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in 2026.
