Square Enix have lifted the lid on the latest expansion for their MMO, Final Fantasy XIV. Titled Endwalker, this expansion brings a heck of a lot of new content for both PlayStation 4 & PC players. There’s also the announcement of a PS5 version. Let’s get stuck in.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker comes off the back of the announcement that 20 million players are currently subscribed to the online RPG. The story plonks you at the climax of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story. The Warriors of Light will travel to the far reaches of Hydaelyn. As the trailer below hints at, you’ll even end up on the moon.

Along with the new story, you’ll also have access to a new job: The Sage. It is shocking that such a job hasn’t been available until now but the Sage will be your designated healer as well as having access to powerful white magic. Here’s a look at the character in action:

There are hints more job classes will be unvailed at a later date so we’ll keep an eye on this. Other features include:

  • Level Cap Increase from 80 to 90
  • New Gear and Crating Recipes
  • Expansive new areas & dungeons, including Garlemald, Thavnair, and the city of Radz-at-Han.
  • A New Residential District: Ishgard
  • A New Beast Tribe: the Arkasodara
  • New Alliance Raid Series & High-Difficulty Raid: Pandæmonium
  • New Small-scale PvP Content
  • An Additional “Trust” System ally: Estinien Wyrmblood
  • Updates to the Gold Saucer
  • Relaxing Fun in Island Sanctuary
  • Expanded Horizons via the Data Center Travel System

If that wasn’t enough, Square Enix have advised that a PlayStation 5 version will launch in open beta on 13th April. Current PS4 subscribers will get access to the PS5 version at no additional cost. New players will have to wait until the beta ends to be able to subscribe to this version.

The PS5 enhancements include significantly improved frame rates, faster load times, 4K resolution support. It is great that PS4 players can upgrade to this version for free.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will mark a new era for the MMO as it will set up new adventures that long time and new players will be able to experience. It seems Sqaure Enix are using the new generation as a starting point to grown their user base.

More information surrounding the Endwalker add-on will be revealed at a free Final Fantasy XIV digital fan event between 15th & 16th May.

Until then you can look forward to the open Beta for the PlayStation 5 on 13th April. Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is pencilled in for an Autumn release, that’ll give you enough time to dive into the world so far. We’ll let you know when this has been finalised.
