Two pieces of DLC have been announced for Final Fantasy XVI. The PS5 timed-exclusive entry into the long standing RPG will get “The Rising Tide” DLC in Spring 2024, whereas “Echoes of the Fallen” is available right now. Each section of additional content can be purchased separately or as part of a discounted expansion pass.

Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen DLC unlocks a new story, weapons, accessories and increases the game’s level cap. Slotting in before the final showdown, Clive and company get wind of mysterious crystals being sold on a black market. During their investigations they encounter a group of suspicious traders, leading them to a long-abandoned Fallen tower known as the Sagespire and the terrible secrets that await within.

From the trailer above, it looks like Clive has his work cut out as he investigates the Sagespire. We catch sight of King Tonberry, an enemy that will undoubtedly strike fear into the hearts of anyone who has played any previous titles. For those not yet initiated into the lore of ‘Tonberry’, these little folks look peaceful, but their giant butcher blade can do massive damage.

Not much is known about “The Rising Tide” DLC as it is a few months away but Square Enix say that it’ll bring new challenges, including the confrontation between Clive and the legendary Eikon, Leviathan.

The Final Fantasy XVI Echoes of the Fallen DLC is out now and those who add this to the base game, either individually or part of the expansion pass will be able to unlock Cloud’s Buster Sword as an additional bonus. Square are also running a 40% discount on the base game until 11 December if you wanted to treat yourself to an early Christmas present.

One thing to note on the DLC trailer is that Square Enix reaffirm that Final Fantasy XVI remains a PS5 exclusive game until the end of 2023. When the game was officially unveiled, the first trailer was made up of PS5 and PC footage, so PC players might not have to wait so long before they get their hands on the latest Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy XVI is out now exclusively for PS5.
