10 years ago in Europe, Nintendo launched its fourth home console, the GameCube.

The console launched to a price-cut  at £129 in both purple and black amidst excitement selling 75,000 in its first two days on sale, beating the PlayStation 2. The launch featured titles such as Luigi’s Mansion (the sequel due out on 3DS this quarter), Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader but alas, no Mario.

In total, the GameCube made a total of 21.74 million sales in sales, just behind Microsoft’s original Xbox and brought about fresh innovation for Luigi’s Mansion, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, and Animal Crossing.

GameCube didn’t fail in producing many odd Nintendo add-ons such as the Broadband Adaptor Add-on to get to grips with the internet age and life-size bongos, even an attempt to connect GameBoy Advances with the GameCube was marginally successful.

So, Happy Birthday GameCube!
