Developer Red Barrels have announced the next entry into the Outlast series. The Outlast Trails which is the next entry in the survival horror series will release next year and has you taking part in a series of gruesome tests to ‘unlock your potential’. Today we’ve got the first look at game play, and boy does it look violent.

The Outlast Trails is set at the height of the Cold War era, where test subjects have been abducted by the shadowy Murkoff Corporation. Imprisoned in a secret Murkoff facility and thrust into a series of physical and mental ordeals, tormented by iconic characters, the aim is to survive with your sanity still intact.

We can’t embed the video on site as it is behind an age gate, but here’s the link to YouTube (opens in new tab).

While the game is a true survival horror, you don’t have to face it alone as The Outlast Trails can be played solo or with up to three other victims. Because nothing says friendship than being chased down a creepy corridor by a murdering psychopath.

The Outlast Trails is due out in 2022. Platforms have yet to be decided but you can expect PC and the next gen consoles as a minimum.
