One of our most anticipated titles of the year comes in the form of point and click adventure Return To Monkey Island and during gamecom 2022, the team at Devolver Digital dropped a new trailer. The game is shaping up to release across Nintendo Switch and PC this year, but the team did tell us when exactly we can expect the game to release.

Return To Monkey Island will release on international talk like a pirate date, which from those scurvy scumbags is 19th September 2022. That’s in less than a month’s time! Although the series’ humour and distinctive art style in the new trailer gives hints of what to expect, aside from the launch date, and the news of a horse’s helmet as a preorder bonus, the trailer doesn’t tell us much about what to expect from the story of the game.

Keeping things under wraps until the game releases is an old school approach and one that’ we’re totally happy with. It not only showcases the humour players can expect but leaves a sense of wonder what direction the return of Guybrush Threepwood , the intrepid hero, leather jacket salesman, and mighty pirate will take as he embarks on a new swash-buckling adventure through the Caribbean.

Developers Terrible Toy Box and Lucasfilm Games are throwing everything at the beloved sequel. Return to Monkey Island has been written by series original creators Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman and Dominic Armato returns as the voice of Guybrush Threepwood. Along with the original trio, a talented team of artists, voice over actors and musical maestros are working hard to ensure the game pays homage to the nearly-30 year old series.

Return To Monkey Island releases on Nintendo Switch and PC on 19th September. Preorders are live now.
