Konami have lifted the lid on the long awaited follow up to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Metal Gear Rising: Revengence was announced way back in 2008 and little has been said about the game, that is until now. This time, Konami are implementing a lot of changes to the project. In this Metal Gear game the development will be handled by Platinum Games, who have created some of the finest games such as Madworld, Bayonetta and the up and coming Anarchy Reigns.

In Metal Gear Rising: Revengence, players will assume the role of Raiden the cyborg Ninja with a High Frequency sword capable of causing destruction. As Snake has stepped aside to let this new generation through, so have his methods. It seems that this game will be an action-adventure rather than the typical stealth-em up we are used to seeing from the Metal Gear games.

The new direction of the series doesn’t mean a complete shift from the foundations of past titles. In fact, Yuji Korekado a key developer in the series will be at the helm of the project and Hideo Kojima the man behind Metal Gear will produce the game. So a new direction for the series will have to be to the liking of the guys who created it.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengence will feature on Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s next year barring any further delays.
