In the run up to Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, the Pokémon company have announced a launch date for New Pokémon Snap, as well as providing the first full look at the Lental region. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch on 30th April. Pre-orders go live today.

A sequel to the on-the-rails N64 classic, New Pokémon Snap throws you into a new region to fill out your Pokédex. This time though, you won’t be capturing and battling, but snapping photos of the monsters in their natural habitat.

Developed by Bandai Namco in collaboration with The Pokémon Company, New Pokémon Snap look vibrant and full of life. A true step up from the original. There will be more than 200 monsters to snap – up from the 60 or so monsters that populated the original.

Details are slim about how many levels there will be to but we do know we’ll be exploring the Lental region to investigate the mysteries of Pokémon that are illuminating the island.

Much like the original, at the end of each course, your photos will be graded based on the quality of photo. This time, Oak won’t be doing the marking. Instead it’ll be done by professor Mirror.

New Pokémon Snap arrives on 30th April on Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more pocket monster news on the site in the run up to Pokémon day on 27th February!
