Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 Gets Free Update & Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Today, Sega celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Puyo Puyo series and have announced that Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is receiving a free content update across all versions of the game. It’s a big one too, adding colour support and four player online multiplayer.

A few weeks ago, the game had a special appearance from Sega’s blue hedgehog with attitude. While he’s a permanent feature in the game, this content update is more substantial.

First up is a modification to the colours. Those who struggle with seeing certain colours are able to go into the menus and tweak the settings to hopefully make the blobs and blocks more accessible. We’re big fans of making video games accessible to everyone so this is a welcome feature!

Next up we have online modes being enabled for all six of the challenge modes. All challenge modes can now be played by up to four players either online or offline.

Four new playable characters – Serilly, a timid mermaid, she has highly effective buff and debuff skills in her arsenal; Rafisol, a mysterious being from an unknown world hiding a hideous power with the ability to, among others, change the shape of the Tetrimino in your possession; Possessed Klug, an evil crimson spirit that has taken over Klug’s body, with a powerful skill that can set up a powerful T-Spin attack; and Yu & Rei, ghostly twins with a chilling degree of pun and trivia knowledge who have a skill that removes up to 32 pieces of incoming Garbage Puyos

Background music – Enjoy 3 new tracks from previous Puyo Puyo titles, including Puyo Puyo Chronicle

New avatars – 20 fresh faces in the lineup, giving players even more options to customize their profiles

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch and will be coming to Steam shortly.
