Capcom have officially given gamers a look at Resident Evil Village, the next instalment in the survival horror series. It looks as dark, twisted, and scary as ever. It’s coming to PlayStation 5, XBox Series X|S & PC on 7th May. PS4 & Xbox One versions will also be available on the same date. Let’s take a look.

Resident Evil Village picks up directly after the events of Resident Evil 7: biohazard. You play the role of Ethan Winters, the protagonist from the previous entry and the game is still presented in a first person view.

However, as you can tell from the title, you won’t be confined to one location. The trailer below shows action taking place in a large, yet still dimly lit castle.

This time, in a call back from previous entries, there will be a merchant to buy weapons and ammo from, as well as a crafting system for when you need those first aid sprays. We’re not looking forward to fending off Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters. Especially when they turn into swarms of bugs.

Resident Evil Village preorders will start today and, if you’ve followed Capcom long enough, you’ll know there’s a variety of options to choose from.

Firstly, we have the Standard Editions in either physical or digital format. A digital Deluxe Edition and a physical Collector’s Edition. The digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game and a digital “Trauma Pack,” . This contains additional in-game content including a Samurai Edge weapon, Resident Evil 7 biohazard inspired found footage screen filter and tape recorder save point options, immediate access to an especially challenging difficulty setting. There is more promised but Capcom didn’t want to spoil all the surprises.

The physical Collector’s Edition includes all of the digital Deluxe Edition content detailed above plus a striking statue of franchise veteran Chris Redfield, a SteelBook case, art book, a cloth map of the village and an A4 print showing the key art. Capcom haven’t confirmed if the availability of the limited edition is restricted to the new consoles or if the PS4/Xbox One versions will also get these. We’re keeping an eye on the preorders to see if any crop up.

Finally, if you skipped Resident Evil 7: biohazard, you’re in luck as Capcom will also be offering a double pack of VII & Village to get you up to speed with Ethan’s story. Although, as RE:7 has been available some time and can be played on the new generations of consoles via backwards compatibility, it might be cheaper to pick up a copy of now to have completed it by 7th May.

For those that have a PS5, a free demo called The Maiden will be made available today. This is a standalone story that intends to show off the castle area, as well as giving you a taster of how the game is shaping up. Other consoles will have this demo at a later date.

Resident Evil Village is coming to PlayStation 5, XBox Series X|S & PC on 7th May.

PS4 & Xbox One versions will also be available on the same date and include free upgrades to the latest versions should you have yet to secure your new systems.
