Sonic Generations was today, finally, formally announced by SEGA in the means of an IGN exclusive. The much speculated title will be made available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live this year, for Sonic’s 20th Anniversary. IGN have managed to secure some game time and have advised that essentially there are two Sonics, Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic and the pair meet up to try and defeat a yet unknown enemy.

Classic Sonic will be what Sonic is all about – 2D platforming whilst Modern Sonic will rush through the games ala Sonic Adventure Battle 2 in an array of speedy 3D motions. Additionally, BioWare will not be involved in this game, so all Sonic fans can breath a sigh of relief as they were heavily involved in Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic and the Black Knight and pretty much all of the bad Sonics in recent years.
