The next South Park game is on the way in 2024 but South Park: Snow Day is going to be a radical departure from 2017’s Fractured but Whole. THQ Nordic are handling development duties this time, and the team has released a new trailer hinting at what’s to come.

According to the blurb South Park Snow Day has you taking on the role of the New kid in South Park. The New Kid joins Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny “to celebrate the most magical day in any young child’s life – a snow day!.” We’ve embedded the trailer below but it does contain fruity language.

The first thing to note with the latest South Park instalment is that it takes on the form of a multiplayer arena brawler. Up to four players take part in battles to save the town of South Park. Players will be able to utilise a number of different types of weapons from basic melee and ranged weapons, all the way up to special abilities designed to wreck havoc on the field.

South Park Snow Day is a vast change in direction compared to the previous RPG entries. In fact the only thing that remains in tact is Cartman’s wizard outfit. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but THQ Nordic’s shift since getting the South Park license suggests the team are trying to jump on the popularity of games like Overwatch rather than follow up on the last two entries.

Perhaps Snow Day is a precursor to something bigger as the game only has an RRP an SRP of £24.99 / €29.99 / $29.99, suggesting that it’ll be a shorter game.

South Park Snow Day will be available for PC, PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
