Splatoon 3 is coming to Switch next year. In 2019, Splatfests in Splatoon 2 came to an end (sort of). Nintendo set about creating a new world influenced by the winners, Team Chaos. Now it has lifted the lid on what to expect when the game launches next year.

We’ve moved on from Inkopolis into a new and head to a new region: the post-apocalyptic looking Splatsville district. From the trailer below, you can see an upside down Eifel Tower, putting the game in our turf, Europe.

It looks like all customisation options are finally available to all Inklings and Octolings, you’ll also have a Small Fry companion known as Little Buddy. We don’t know what purpose he’ll serve in battle but we’re already sold.

The action retains the series’ two teams of four format but with this being a new location, all of the maps will be brand new. New weapons can be seen from the off such as the big bow, and it looks as if some inspiration from Fornite is taking place as you pick your starting position from the air.

The soundtrack feels more guitar based than previous games so hopefully that brings influence to whomever gets the job as this game’s Idol band.

We don’t want to speculate too much but the focus on the aeroplane in the trailer, as well as the flight tickets in the above artwork, not to mention the remixed music from the original Splatoon, makes us hope we can also return to Inkopolis to see Judd, Off The Hook and the Squid Sisters.

Splatoon 3 will ink up the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
