Fallen Legion Revenants, a strategy RPG from possibly one of the best developer names; YummyYummyTummy and publisher Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) is heading to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

A follow up to 2018’s Fallen Legion Rise to Glory (which is a compilation of Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion and Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire), Revenants takes the same core strategy focussed gameplay and tells you the story of two new characters; Lucian & Rowena as they traverse a new land looking to repair a world covered in deadly Miasma.

The gameplay is key to the series and Fallen Legion Revenants looks to build on the games that have come before it. When you’re in battle, it is presented as a 2D environment. You don’t control the movement of the characters, they automatically progress from left to right, stopping only when there are either enemies or a decision to be made.

Your leader will either be Lucian or Rowena, depending on the situation. When it comes to battles, you’ll have command over three Exemplars; spirits of fallen warriors called to battle once more. Each of your characters are assigned to each of the four face buttons of the controller and you press the button of the warrior you wish to attack.

Each warrior has a set number of attacks to start with but once they’re used, they need to regenerate. This means you have to manage your battles carefully and can’t just button mash your way to a win. It might sound complicated but when you watch the video below you’ll see it’s rather straightforward.

Fallen Legion Revenants isn’t going to appeal to everyone but if you’re up for a rich story that borders on ridiculous at times, and a great strategic battle system, then this is one to keep an eye on. There’s a free demo available from each digital store to try before you buy.

Fallen Legion Revenants looks to be building on the established formula when it is released on PlayStation 4 & Nintendo Switch on 19th February. A free demo is available on both systems right now.
