Nintendo have now confirmed that a classic franchise will be making it’s way onto the Nintendo 3DS in all of it’s glory this holidays – Super Mario. Super Mario 3D is an evolution of the Mario platforming games of old and will feature the new and old Mario elements in a true 3D environment. Not content with just settling with a 2D image in a 3D world Nintendo have pulled what’s great from games like Mario Galaxy and the 25 years worth of experience in 2D games together to bring us Super Mario for the 3DS.

Nintendo are advising that game will contain the following:

• 3D visuals make it easier for players to judge the depths and distances in their environments. Players can more accurately judge the jump to the next platform or how far Mario is from a question block.
• New and familiar abilities add unique game-play strategies to the adventure. Mario can perform a rolling somersault attack or run fast with a dash move. Or, as Tanooki Mario, he can use his tail to hover, perform floating jumps or attacks.
• The Circle Pad gives players complete control to confidently move Mario through fun and challenging environments.
• New enemies include Goombas with tails, tall stacks of Goombas and a Piranha Plant that spits ink to obscure a player’s view.

Many of these abilities are a given; however, with new enemies like Goombas with tails we’re seeing the evolution of Mario and could potentially be seeing an image that will appear on a hundred unlicensed t-shirts very soon.
