Team Cherry announces Silksong expansion and Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Possibly the most anticipated indie release of all time, Hollow Knight: Silksong launched in September 2025, crashing almost every digital storefront through the sheer ravenous demand. Three months on, over seven million players have helped Hornet overcome the trials of Pharloom en route to The Citadel, almost reaching half the lifetime sales of their franchise debut game already.

Adelaide-based indie devs, Team Cherry, may have kept us waiting for the release of Silksong, but they aren’t wasting any time in announcing it’s first expansion – dropping the news that Sea of Sorrow will be coming sometime in 2026!

While they’re remaining characteristically tight lipped, we do know that the nautical themed expansion promises new tools, bosses and areas to explore. And in the spirit of the season, Team Cherry have shared that Sea of Sorrow will be free to all players – bolstering the huge experience already offered by the main game. Check out the announcement trailer below:

Keep your eyes peeled for more Sea of Sorrow news shortly before the expansion drops next year.

But Team Cherry weren’t stopping there, as they announced that the original Hollow Knight is receiving a spruce up, with a Nintendo Switch 2 edition also coming in the new year. Offering all of the same improvements we saw for Silksong, like improved resolutions, frame-rate modes and graphical effects, owners of Hollow Knight for Switch will be able to download the Switch 2 version for free when it drops in 2026.

Keen to make sure that all players get the same experience, Team Cherry are outfitting the game with the same specs on all other platforms too, with all the expected features and bug-fixes. PC players can get the jump on the improved version though, as a beta upgraded version is now live on Steam and GOG.

Both Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Silksong: Sea of Sorrow are coming in 2026.
