The samurai side scroller Trek to Yomi is getting a Nintendo Switch port today. After a positive release across other formats last year, the black and white hack and slash created by Leonard Menchiari and Flying Wild Hog has launched on the Nintendo e-Shop and we think is one game you don’t want to miss.

Trek to Yomi is inspired by black and white samurai films and spins a tale of romance, duty and death. Playing as swordsman Hiroki as he seeks to honour a vow to his dying master and protect the people he loves. The monochromatic visuals with classic 2D combat and gentle puzzle-solving are bundled to create a fun adventure.

We first played this bushido classic at WASD last year and can say that the title brings a tough-but-fair combat system that rewards players with good timing and punishes for spamming the attack buttons. Even though Trek is presented in black and white, that doesn’t stop the flowing, bloody and brutal action from unfolding.

After a successful launch on PlayStation and Xbox last year, we’re keen to see how the Switch presents the striking vistas and environments that absorb you in. Although, from the trailer above, it does look like the game will be a faithful port. One thing is for sure though, Trek to Yomi‘s subtle soundtrack that utilises Japanese instruments from the Edo period will be a joy to experience while on the move.

Trek to Yomi is out now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, PC & Xbox.
