Nintendo has confirmed that the third wave of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass DLC will launch on Switch in December. As with the previous two waves, this wave will feature two new cups and a total of eight tracks based on previous entries in the series.

The tracks will be added on 7th December and will bring the Rock and Moon cups to the long running racer. As always, the Booster Pass is included with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription or can be purchased separately. The wave 3 courses have been pulled from the Wii, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game, as well as the mobile entry, Mario Kart Tour.

The full track listing will be as follows:

Rock Cup

  • London Loop from Mario Kart Tour
  • Boo Lake from Mario Kart: Super Circuit
  • Alpine Pass from Mario Kart 7
  • Maple Treeway from Mario Kart Wii

Moon Cup

  • Berlin Byways from Mario Kart Tour
  • Peach Gardens from Mario Kart DS
  • Merry Mountain from Mario Kart Tour
  • Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 7

It’s certainly a varied amount of tracks to zip about in and it’s great to see the handheld sections getting some love and seeing them come to life with Mario Kart 8‘s visuals is sure to excite fans of these courses.

While it’s great to see familiar courses, Mario Kart Tour is the game that is certainly seeing the most representation with the DLC. Out of the 24 tracks within the Booster Pass, eight of them – or 33% have been from the mobile version. Considering there are only eleven tours within the game, we could very well see all of the courses make an appearance by the time wave 6 releases.

Unlike the last wave there is one omission that feels glaring, a whole new course. Last wave saw the inclusion Sky High Mountain. That’s not to say we won’t see any more new tracks – the Booster Course is only half announced, with the three remaining waves scheduled throughout 2023. So there is still sometime left for Nintendo to announce some new tracks to race around in.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available now on Nintendo Switch.
