In a rather strange move, CD Projekt Red have announced that they will release The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt base game, plus it’s DLC as three separate products. These will be going live on the Nintendo eShop shortly. Currently, only the Complete Edition was available.

Having a the vanilla game plus DLC and a complete edition is common place on digital store fronts. A quick glance at both Microsoft & Sony’s shops shows this set up is currently available. Where this story gets strange is that the Complete Edition will eventually be de-listed.

According to The Witcher website, this is to give players more choice in what parts of the game they choose to play. The reasoning for having just the base game available is fair; players may not want the additional content. It’s strange that the Complete Edition is going, especially since the website also confirms that the Game + DLC will be the same total cost as the Complete Edition.

To cap off this strange situation, if you were to lose your copy of the game, you can rebuy the separate components. It won’t cost you anything to do this as a 100% discount will be applied to the account that had the collectors edition.

This only applies to digital copies of the game. If you bought a physical copy, that of course will still work and be supported going forward.
