World War Z: Aftermath released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back in September 2021, but that hasn’t stopped Saber Interactive from developing a current gen version, which releases today. Those who’ve already bought the game do get a free upgrade, and as well as the usual visual and gameplay enhancements, there’s a tasty new mode for you to sink your teeth into.

Inspired by Paramount Pictures film, World War Z drops players in a world that’s overun by the undead. Players can either battle against hordes of ravenous zombies solo or with up to three others as they shoot their way through zombie-ravaged locations around the world like the Vatican City, or Russia’s snowbound Kamchatka peninsula.

Aftermath contains the entire World War Z package with all content from World War Z: Game of the Year Edition, including full episodes in New York, Moscow, Marseille, Jerusalem and Tokyo and gamers can swap between first and third person modes – perfect if you want to look a zombie in the eyes as you blast it to bits.

The new update brings 4K/60fps gameplay to the current generation along with new mutators being into the standard Horde Mode Z game mode. New new weapons and a revamped and improved weapon progression system are also being implemented within World War Z: Aftermath to streamline the process from customising loadouts to dispatching those shambling undead.

Rounding out the package is Horde Mode XL which is exclusive to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC versions of the game. This utilises the power of the new machines and throws waves of up to 1,000 zombies at the screen, ready for the fireteams to take out in what is set to be a challenge for any experienced players and gives a nice incentive to upgrade (if you can!)

World War Z: Aftermath is out now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
