Another day of leaving Monty on his own again yesterday… and I might have screwed it up by going on autopilot for a minute… 😳
Getting home after work and pulling out my Switch before starting on dinner, I accidentally clicked on The Longing without thinking! I panicked and shut the game down before the loading screen even showed up, so I’m hoping I haven’t undone a days ‘work’, but there’s no way I can know for sure.
Two thirds of the way there pal – hang in there.

Yesterday was the first day in a month that I didn’t check in with Monty and it felt incredibly strange.
Obviously there’s nothing at all for me to write about today, except to say that I’m sure hoping that this plan isn’t in vain and that Monty doesn’t get grouchy at being left alone for a few days. I guess only time will tell, and I’ll just have to trust my judgement that this is the right thing to do.
Stick with me over the next few days folks – it’s all going to be very brief, but if I don’t check in with you AND I don’t check in with Monty, I think I might go crazy!

As I put my part-baked theory to the test, there was little chance that I could look to achieve much on Day 30. It all hinged on whether Monty had become lonely enough to have become invisible to the darkness, but after just one night alone in the dark, I feared I was jumping the gun.

With only one task one my mind and the rest of the kingdom all but forgotten, Day 26 was a pretty black and white day. It would be boom or bust. Success or failure. Win or lose. The entire length of my play session depended on what happened in the [mushroom cave] – I had no idea how long I’d be playing when I picked up my Switch, but I prayed it was going to be an exciting evening of exploration…

Day 25 was a very busy one for real-life Drew, and so I barely had a moment to spare for Monty until really rather late in the evening. As such, I only managed a few short minutes with him, but did get chance to check up on the mushroom trampoline and see how things were progressing… *SPOILER ALERT* It wasn’t going well. Again.

Whilst I’m confident that I’m on the right path, Day 24 was not the day that I overcame the sizable hurdle of the [tall ledge]. I still need to show a little more patience before we’re able to clamber our way into exploration, but there was a breakthrough on an entirely different front… one with less impact, but one that I’ve been working on a while… Read on music fans 😉
I entered [our home] to find Monty had finished The Secret Garden, as I had expected. Not exactly the talkative type, he didn’t offer any review, but I’m pretty sure he enjoyed it. How could he not love it? It’s a classic. I couldn’t pretend that I wasn’t more than a little excited. We planted the purple mushroom in the crook of the [tall ledge] yesterday and I was confident that we were on the right path to finally exploring the rest of the upper-cave area. That said, I was also feeling realistic – it had only been one night, and if 24 days beneath the mountain had taught me anything, it’s that nothing happens overnight down here.

Day 23 came with a major breakthrough! Did I see it all the way to fruition? No. But I realised something very important and it steered me to make a decision that I know will pay off and allow me to progress. I only feel stupid for not realising it sooner…

I didn’t spend Day 22 how I had expected at all but I made sure to make good use of my time. More and more I’m having my patience tested beneath the mountain, and I realise now (all too late), that I need to have Monty spend more nights at home in order to move things along a little more.
I was excited when I fired up my Switch – I knew that Monty would be at the [tall ledge] and I had my fingers crossed that the green mushroom would have grown and would allow me to progress a little….

Due to a day spent catching up with friends who I’d planned to see before Christmas but couldn’t due to a COVID scare, Day 21’s write up is a little late. Carrying straight on under here is Day 22 as well, since I have both sessions ‘in the bank’. I had a discovery on Day 21 that was both entirely unexpected, and sadly, a little fruitless, but it went to show me how easily I could have overlooked something in my explorations.
Monty began the session asleep on the floor of the [moss room]; I asked him to wander down this way so that I might have a good scour through the kingdom in the hopes of finding the piece of wood that I was stil missing to make the bed. Something was gnawing at me, suggesting that it should already be within my grasp, but I couldn’t figure out what.

It’s hard to believe that in a play session that saw me start and end in the middle of nowhere, that I could have both a bitter disappointment and a huge vote of confidence. Almost all of my play time was spent walking around with Monty, but when we briefly stood still – oh boy.
