Nintendo have confirmed the appearance of Game Gear games for download on the Nintendo 3DS eshop. The service is expected to launch in the next week or so – starting 15th March for US users. A European launch is due around the same time.

The Game Gear was SEGA’s answer to the Gameboy in the early nineties and was a more powerful console which was a portable Master System. It’s failure was due to the fact it took 6AA batteries and lasted all of 10 minutes. Even so, the system produced some great titles. The virtual console of the Game Gear will launch three titles: Dragon Crystal, Shinobi & Sonic Triple Trouble. More details on pricing and a confirmed release date will follow.
