Yes, the game we first played in 1994 has finally had it’s ban in Germany lifted. This means that for the first time in 17 years, the original Doom and Doom II is now available to buy in retails stores with no age restriction! Previously, the titles were put on a controlled list of entertainment unsuitable for minors.

What this meant is that only licensed shops who sold adult material were able to sell the game. The reason for the lift in the ban is simple. German officials have deemed that teenagers will have no interest in the game and that it will only be bought for artistic purposes!

However, the kids who wanted to play Doom would have, by getting parents or older friends to buy it for them! It is also safe to assume that now the ban is lifted, youngsters today could purchase the game for that piece of iconic video game excellence that it is.

It is worth mentioning that while Doom II is off the list, it is the censored version as the general release version does feature Nazi paraphernalia throughout some of it’s levels.
