Gatera Studio is busy creating their rhythm-platformer Antro and has released a new trailer showcasing the game’s progress as it edges closer to its release. Due out in 2024, Antro shows an underground city that’s divided by ruthless social classes that have banned any form of artistic freedom.

Players take up the role of Nittch, a delivery driver relegated to the lowest level of society, both figuratively and literally. Nittch is tasked with delivering a mysterious package to an anonymous address and has to navigate the 2.5D environments. From the trailer, we get a glimpse at the platforming levels where players move in synchrony with the music.

The full blurb of the game from the developers:

Humankind has been forced to live underground, in the city of ANTRO. It’s a dirty and dark hole divided into geographical strata where the inhabitants of the lowest levels fight for survival doing forced labor, while the ones in the highest levels rule over the new underground world. The government has become a totalitarian system, handing over the power to a corporation known as La Cúpula. Freedom of speech has been censored. Art and music, forbidden.

Antro features a soundtrack with a varied selection of urban music genres like Hip Hop, Drill, R&B and electronic music. The full lineup hasn’t been announced just yet but Gatera Studios has confirmed appearances from JM Benet, Aleis / La Hepta and Status Crudo / La Hepta.

It seems that rhythm games are having a bit of a resurgence at the moment with games like Metal Hellsinger and Hi-Fi Rush being popular examples. Where Antro is different is the urban approach to the soundtrack, focusing on Hip Hop over rock and metal tunes. Puzzle-solving to the beat does sound interesting and it’ll be fun to see where Gatera Studios takes the concept.

Antro is scheduled for a release on Steam in 2024. The game can be added to your wishlist here.
